Accredited membership.  Open by application to post-secondary programs and PK-12 schools that meet and maintain compliance with AALE Standards which are designed to recognize and support excellence in liberal arts learning and teaching and to promote the highest quality liberal education. Accreditation is determined by a rigorous peer review process. Accredited members adhere to all AALE policies and procedures governing their category of membership.    

Associate membership.  Open by application to post-secondary programs (at accredited U.S. institutions) that demonstrate through their mission statement and practice alignment with AALE Standards I-4: Mission; Learning Objectives;  Curriculum; and Faculty and Teaching, which are designed to ensure that the cornerstones of a liberal arts program focus clearly and coherently on providing students with the highest quality liberal education. Associate members adhere to all AALE policies and procedures governing their category of membership.  

Affiliate membership.  Open by application to non-profit academic centers, institutes, organizations serving U.S. colleges and universities and authorized post-secondary U.S. degree-granting institutions that demonstrate through their mission statement and activities alignment with AALE’s commitment to advancing excellence in liberal education. Affiliate members adhere to all AALE policies and procedures governing their category of membership. (Effective June 13, 2023 the existence of any Affiliate membership awarded or held prior to June 13, 2023 is null and void.
